Historic Connection that created Native Fire

Like many others, WildCheff Denny Corriveau sought to discover his family roots from his mother’s genealogy. Denny was excited to find out that his great grandfather lineage led to a renowned Metis (Mi'kmaq) Indian Chief Henri Membertou, connecting him to aboriginal First Nation status. The Chief is a historic figure in Canada, particularly within Nova Scotia and the Quebec region of Canada. Today there is a town named after him in Nova Scotia called Membertou, and his heritage lives on at this First Nation Community. Denny’s great grandfather was the sakmow (Grand Chief) of the Mi'kmaq First Nations tribe situated near Port Royal, site of the first French settlement in Acadia, present-day Nova Scotia, Canada. In fact, he was the Chief of six tribes.

Through historical documentation Chief Membertou entered an agreement with France to help populate Canada. Chief Membertou was a well-respected leader, warrior, provider and was instrumental in governing the tribes. Through this discovery, WildCheff realized where his passion for the outdoors, hunting, and love of outdoor food comes from. You might say that his namesake WildCheff has a direct tie to his lineage.

WildCheff has also had a strong appreciation and interest in preserving history and tradition. This compelled WildCheff to launch Native Fire; a culinary company that focuses on his Native Metis heritage. Native Fire offers a vintage food truck that has unique Earth to Table food offerings. The Native menu celebrates Denny’s connection to his great grandfather (Pepere) Grand Chief Membertou. Additionally, Native Fire offers seasonal Metis Indigenous Food Experiences.
